Trains and ships have more to do with each other than one might think. Ports are vital to Europe’s economic strength and strategic autonomy, while strong port-rail connections are essential to a modern, multimodal and integrated transport and logistics system.

Despite rail freight’s advantages in energy efficiency, sustainability and dual-use transport, too much long-distance freight still relies on road transport alone.
