The High-Speed Solution for an ever closer and sustainable Europe

Wednesday, 08 Nov 2023  17:00
European Parliament, Brussels

Promoting climate-friendly travel to connect Europe, means promoting the creation of an interoperable high-speed rail network linking European capitals and major cities, joining up urban nodes and airports, and supporting the development of international passenger services.

According to the targets set in the EU Smart and Sustainable Mobility Strategy, high-speed rail (HSR) must be doubled by 2030 and tripled by 2050. Several studies have been conducted on this topic, most recently by Deutsche Bahn, where a vision for the European High-Speed Network of 2050 is clearly pictured (see study here).

With growing interest in setting a HSR Master Plan for Europe, this event will present the rail sector's vision for high-speed, grounded in hard evidence from the recent studies and reports. The discussion will aim to address pressing issues surrounding implementation and encourage higher political ambition, particularly in the context of the ongoing revision of the TEN-T Regulation.

Kindly hosted in the European Parliament by MEP Dominique Riquet (co-rapporteur on TEN-T), this event is organised in cooperation with the Spanish Presidency of the EU, starting at 17:00 and followed by a networking cocktail.
