Dear Visitor,
The 2011 European Railway Award ceremony and annual reception on 9 February proved to be an excellent evening, with awards presented to the former Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, for his political achievements in transport, and to Austrian rail engineer Dr Stefan Haas for his technical achievements. It was pleasing that so many people were able to join us for the annual event, and we were particularly pleased that we were able to welcome as our keynote speaker the European Commission Vice-President Siim Kallas. Mr Kallas explained to the guests the critical role that railways will play in confronting tomorrow’s environmental challenges, as well as his views on the future of European competitiveness. European Parliament vote widens gap between transport modes
The European Parliament’s plenary last week confirmed the agreement on new EU legislation on the rights of bus and coach passengers. An agreement which violates the principje of a level playing field between transport modes. Read the complete article

CER welcomes discussion of TEN-T guidelines in Council
The EU 27 transport ministers met on 7 and 8 February in Gödöllo, Hungary, for an informal Council meeting hosted by the Hungarian Presidency to discuss the review of the trans-European transport network (TEN-T) policy.
