The 2011 European Railway Award ceremony and annual reception on 9 February proved to be an excellent evening, with awards presented to the former Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, for his political achievements in transport, and to Austrian rail engineer Dr Stefan Haas for his technical achievements. Mr Kallas explained to the guests the critical role that railways will play in confronting tomorrow’s environmental challenges, as well as his views on the future of European competitiveness.
