Dear Visitor,

After a restful summer period, CER is back with full speed ahead, ready for the busy months to come.
On 12 September, the CER General Assembly unanimously elected Libor Lochman as new Executive Director of CER. Currently holding the position of CER Deputy Executive Director, Lochman has not only extensive knowledge of the European rail sector and EU policy making but also knows the association inside out. He will take over from me and be in charge as of 1 January 2012.

Libor Lochman to follow Johannes Ludewig as CER Executive Director

Libor Lochman was unanimously elected as new Executive Director of CER by the CER General Assembly on 12 September in Bonn, Germany. He will succeed the current Executive Director Johannes Ludewig and take office on 1 January 2012.

TRAN Committee discussion on the recast proposal: finalization of compromise amendments in sight

The European Parliament’s TRAN Committee met on 31 August to further discuss the main points of the European Commission proposal to recast the first railway package. The shadow rapporteurs together with the rapporteur, MEP Debora Serracchiani (S&D, IT), are seeking compromise amendments.

Grosch presents his draft report to the TRAN Committee

MEP Mathieu Grosch (EPP, BE) presented his own-initiative report on the Transport White Paper to the Parliament’s TRAN Committee on 8 September. While CER welcomes the intention to introduce intermediate goals for 2020, it does not support specific reduction targets for individual modes of transport.

Dialogue launched between CER and IRG-Rail

Infrastructure

Infrastructure financing and PPP investments discussed at Informal Transport Council

Methods for financing transport infrastructure from non-public funds and sharing experiences concerning Public-Private Partnership (PPP) investments were the subjects of the informal session of EU transport ministers held on 5-6 September in Sopot, Poland. CER believes that new financial instruments can be combined with state funding in order to develop Europe’s goals for a sustainable transport system.

The Polish Presidency and CER in co-operation with the EPP political group of the European Parliament are organising an event entitled "Putting European High-Speed Rail on the Fast Track" which will take place on 19 October from 18.30 to 20.30 in the European Parliament in Brussels.
